Technical Bulletin

Summary: Need both Standard and Pro from a network install.

ViaDuct 4.2

Symptom:

A LAN has a Network installation of ViaDuct that contains both Standard and Professional licenses. End result is to have both a Standard and Professional installation on one pc.

Problem:

Becuase this would be a network installation using the wssetup program, very little is actually copied to the client pc. Actually only a program shortcut and an ini file. The problem is that if both Pro and Standard are installed they will simply use the same icon and ini and only the last of the two versions installed will work.

Solution:

During the installation of the first ViaDuct type (Standard or Professional) make sure to specify a folder name other than the default. (ViaDuct 2000 Workstation) After the installation two other items need to change:

1. The ViaDuct ini file needs to be renamed. The default installation location for this file is drive:\windows\system or drive:\winnt\system32 (NT users). This file needs to be renamed.
To rename a file, right click on the icon and select "Rename" after typing the new name press "Enter".

2. The next item to change is the shortcut icon. This shortcut needs to be changed to reflect the new name of the ini file.
To change this property right click on the "Start" button. Click "Explore". Find the folder labeled "Programs" with a + sign next to it and expand the folder. When the folder expands find the folder that you named during the ViaDuct installation. Open that folder and right click on the ViaDuct icon and select "Properties". When the window opens click the tab titled "Shortcut". At this point change the ini file name.

Example Shortcut:
\\servername\vdt32net\viaduct.exe C:\windows\system\viadct32.ini,normal

All that needs changed is the ini name.
\\servername\vdt32net\viaduct.exe C:\windows\system\newname.ini,normal

Once the new name has been applied, the other type of ViaDuct can be installed normally.
