Summary: Edit/spool gives errors or doesn't work.

ViaDuct 4.X

Symptom:

Using Edit/Spool as File Transfer gives an error, or doesn't work at all.

Problem:

  1. ViaDuct Edit Spool will only work with Host printers. If your system has an option to print to the local port (the auxilliary port of the old "dumb terminal" - commonly specified with AS) any "Edit Spool" File transfers will result in an error in the progress monitor.
  2. If you are printing to the Host spooler, you will get the error "Edit Spool has failed. See message in Progress Window ENTRY#", where x is a number.

Solution:

  1. The host system's AS option varies greatly between hosts. This issue may be resolved in a future release of ViaDuct.
  2. ViaDuct captures any error messages coming from the host system and returns them to the program. On certain systems, the Spooler will return the printer queue entry as something that looks to ViaDuct as an error. The copied information will print to the printer specified on the host. The error that is thrown is simply the message that the host system returns when it has received a spooler job.
